TAGSYS develops intelligent infrastructure for RFID networks

TAGSYS develops intelligent infrastructure for RFID networksSocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

TAGSYS, the global leader in item-level RFID infrastructure announced the Medio L400, the industry’s first self-diagnostic and self-correcting long-range HF RFID reader.

Another industry first, TAGSYS also announced that the Medio L400 will be compatible with the highly-anticipated, next-generation, high-performance EPCglobal RFID standard—HF Version 2 (V2)—via a simple firmware upgrade.

The Medio L400 leads the industry in performance and offers up to six times faster processing speed and 40 per cent greater read range than the currently available TAGSYS readers. Utilizing breakthrough sensor technology and self-diagnostic capabilities, the Medio L400 self-monitors nine different functions, including temperature and digital output load.

When coupled with e-connectware, TAGSYS’ comprehensive set of management and administrative tools, administrators can remotely monitor, manage and modify 50 separate parameters in the Medio L400 in real time to enable the highest quality-of-service (QoS) levels and ensure data accuracy and data integrity in item-level tagging.

"The Medio L400 and e-connectware create an intelligent infrastructure that enables customers to treat RFID as part of their network fabric to ensure that the highest QoS levels, data accuracy and data integrity are achieved," said Elie Simon, president and CEO of TAGSYS.

"Furthermore, since we’ve designed the Medio L400 to be HF V2 compatible, customers can deploy their RFID infrastructure today and migrate to V2 in the future with no risk or penalty."

The Medio L400 is a key component of TAGSYS’ overall ‘Path to V2’ program. TAGSYS has been an integral part of the Hardware Action Group within EPCglobal, working with other industry leaders to create the HF V2 specification. Currently at Candidate Specification status, the specification is pending ratification by the EPCglobal board of directors; ratification is anticipated in early 2008.

Customers who purchase a Medio L400 will be able to migrate to HF V2 with a simple, free firmware upgrade. In HF V2 mode, the Medio L400 will be able to simultaneously support additional protocols, including ICODE 1, ISO 15693 and UID-OTP, making it 100% backward compatible with the current HF tag standards.

"RFID is not about frequencies or components, its about making it work via a systems approach” states Drew Nathanson, RFID Practice Director for Venture Development Corporation. “The introduction of the HF V2-ready L400 reinforces TAGSYS’ commitment to provide ‘best in class’ RFID solutions and services that are not only high performing, but are also capable of evolving with the industry and the end-users requirements."
